What is Flash and do you recommend using it? Flash is a vector graphic and animation program. Flash poses the ability to be browser independent. The benefit of Flash is the files are small and practical for low-speed modem connections and yet look like real-time video. Flash has its advantages and disadvantages. If one of your concerns is that your website is search engine friendly then we would not recommend Flash. Other wise there are no other problems with Flash Can an ecommerce component be added to my existing website? Yes, its not a problem. We can even add a CMS (Content Management System) to your current website, to allow you to administer & manage it yourself. Content for a website is material of interest, put there and changed frequently in order to encourage visits to that page, possibly producing income or clients or the website owner. The content is sometimes referred to as only the text on a website or the information and often the pictures on it as well. Web hosting is provided by a Web Host or as we call them Hosting companies. A hosting company is in the business of providing server space for individuals or companies who do not have their own servers. A web server is needed to make your web page accessible to the internet. A domain name is the address of your website. An example would be www.yoursitenamehere.com. Our domain name is www.mediapower.ca. You will need a domain name for your website to be viewed by others. Unfortunately we are currently not providing that service but, we would be happy to help you find the right place to purchase a domain name. |

What does a typical website cost? This depends entirely on the kind of site you need, its complexity and of course its ultimate business purpose. For a regular small business website with a custom graphic design of the banner and just a few pages of content, pricing typically comes in at around the $1,500 level. We also have template-based websites without much customization or custom graphics that are much lower in price starting at under $600, depending on your business requirements. For Content Management System (CMS) sites or Ecommerce stores we would need to assess the scope and functionality of your project before giving a firm quotation. Note: There is no extra charge for assessing your requirements and once we have quoted a flat price, we will not change it unless you request something extra outside the scope of the original proposal. How long does the whole process take? Some factors depend on us and others on you, our client. For us are the relevant factors are the size and complexity of the website and also our current workload. The client influences the speed of the project by the time it takes for you to review our submissions and provide us with input and approvals. you also influence timelines by the time it takes you to provide the text and image resources we might need for completion. Typically, a small site typically takes 3-5 weeks between project start and the website going live however, if you have a specific deadline and we think it is doable, we will plan to meet it for you if possible. Every business has different requirements. We will help you determine how many pages you need after learning more about your company and marketing objectives. We have clients with sites consisting of a single page and others whose sites are hundreds of pages long. Do you transfer files to my Web site or do I? Generally we transfer your files to your website. During project development, we will upload to our own servers for you to view and when approved we transfer the finalized files to your server. Yes we offer consulting in the form of a very comprehensive New Media Marketing Audit that hundreds of our customers have found more than useful in determining their overall marketing strategy as well as in employing individual online tools and techniques. What is the difference between a static and a dynamic website? A static website means a brochure type website. A brochure type is merely information placed on a page and is not commerce enabled. Similar to a brochure, these websites are simply electronic marketing pieces with no ability to perform transactions. For example this website is a brochure website. It was created using HTML. This website provides no interactivity except displaying the information on the web page for users to view. A dynamic website is a type of web page that changes every time you visit it. It lets you enter information that aids it in deciding what to show you next. These page usually end with .php .asp and others. These are generally used in e-commerce. The price can range from under $1000 to $250,000 - all depending on the size of your project. The best thing to do would be to request a list of our standard packages or ask for a customized and detailed quote based on our New Media Marketing Audit. |

Can I maintain my website myself? There are 2 options: If you know HTML coding, certainly you can. If you do not there are some companies who provide programs that will let you update your site using Internet Explorer, the downfalls to that are you might not get exactly what you want and it could mess up your site. The best is to always hire someone who does it for a living. We provide low cost maintenance packages. The benefit to you is if you only need a few updates a year then you can purchase a package and use it when you need it. The second option is when you are planning the website, let us know you would like to update it yourself and we will construct it accordingly. This is known as the "CMS Website" (CMS: Content Management System). How often should my website be updated? The updates to your website depend on your ultimate objectives? If SEO is a major concern to your business it is recommend to add a page a day. If not, your website should be kept up to date with your ever changing business. In fact a website should never be totally complete and it should be designed with room for expansion. In short, your website should be updated at least every month, if not every week. Having said that, speak to us about adding "RSS Feeds" to your site, which allow you to refresh your content regularly and automatically. |

The person who owns the site is the name you have entered when registering the domain name. If you decide to have a website created by us, once we are finished uploading your site and you are satisfied, we will be send you a CD of all necessary files. From there you are free to do what you want with it. Will everyone see my site the same? Viewers will see some things differently depending on their browser and screen resolution setting. We design sites to target the majority of users. While we do design our sites for different browsers and different platforms, some minor differences may occur in formatting. Our sites are designed to look as close to the original in all the major browsers. Why can't I see my site in Google (or other search engines)? Well that's because the search engine submission process is not a simple one. There are many factors that come into play when it comes to major search engines including links, the quality of the content and how long the site has been live. We can provide some help with that. We offer Search Engine Submission Services. Please contact us if you are interested in our services. Search Engine Submission does not happen overnight. It does take time so please keep that in mind. How do I market my site online? That would vary depending on your business. We can provide you with a detailed marketing plan once we have discussed your business and what your goals are. Do I have to change my e-mail address now that I have my website? No, absolutely not. Although for business we do advise keeping it more professional by using e-mail addresses like john@mycompany.com rather than john25971@hotmail.com. We can create an email address for you like, you@yourcompany.com. We'll also explain to you how to set them up using Outlook or any other e-mail client software. Also with our hosting plans you have the option of creating and managing multiple email addresses for your company. |

What is Search Engine Optimization? SEO is the process of guiding the development or re-development of a website so that it will naturally attract visitors by gaining top ranking on the major search engines for keywords that your visitor would use to search for your website. Why should I use Search Engine Optimization? SEO (Search Engine Optimization) brings enables your website to achieve top ranking in search engines. SEO helps in reaching your potential clients as you are found in the search engine results (SERP). Search engines are considered a trusted source of information for hundreds of millions of people. As a business you want to be found or used more that your competitors. Employing search engine optimization can help you do that by getting your website listed above your major competitors for your keywords. Basically you want to dominate your competition. You also want to drive more traffic to your website. Especially targeted traffic. People who are actually going to buy/use your product/service. With search engine optimization you can do that by optimizing for your related keywords. Also, have your website optimized for search engines for targeted traffic, you eliminate the cost of PPC ads. What can I realistically achieve with Search Engine Optimization? With the right Search Engine Optimization techniques applied for both on page and off page factors, key selling pages can be turned around to rank highly in the search engines. More highly ranking pages will in turn bring in more unique visitors (i.e. potential new customers) and if nurtured correctly these new visitors/customers will go on to become loyal customers in the years ahead. The idea is to get as many of your web pages to rank as highly as possible. Is it possible to guarantee front page results using Search Engine Optimization? If any company offers a guarantee for getting results - run for cover! Every search engine has acceptance policies and ranking methods, which change constantly and, as a result, positions change constantly...today's #1 position is next month's #10. No search engine submission or placement service can actually "guarantee" to have control over exactly where a website is positioned in the rankings... the way search engines are designed makes this impossible. How long will it take me to see results using Search Engine Optimization? It's impossible to say how much time you'll need to spend generating links. It also depends on your particular industry, the number of competitors and if your keywords are competitive or not. The time taken to optimize your site also depends on the amount of pages to be optimized and if your website is text heavy. |
